German government to cut subsidies supporting solar power by up to 30 percent

The picture is of a solar field in Germany

Summery:
Solar panels are a great way to get energy instead of other ways. This article takes place in Germany. The reason that the German government wants to cut subsidies is due to over order and they can just no afford it. It would drop from 30% to 20%. The reason for this sudden rise of solar panels is from the earthquake in Japan and people got worried about a possible nuclear meltdown.  The article also said that in Europe a lot of the energy is made for nuclear power plants. Energy from renew able sources covered 20 percent of all German energy. This is better that the U.S. by about 9 percent.
Opinion
I think that German government should lower the amount it subsidies. I feel this way because more people are able to get solar panels because less is spent by the government on each panel there from more can be subsidies. I also feel that thee German people are a little paranoid because the possibility of an earthquake doing that kind of damage is extremely unlikely. I picked this article because if less fossil fuel are being burned than less damage to the environment can be done. I think that more people here in this country should get solar panels.

Questions:

1. Would you get solar panels?

2. Do you think that the German government is subsidies to much or to little? Why or why not?

3. If solar panels were never invented would we be better or worse off?  Why or why not?

4. what can we do to make sure we live a greener life?

  1. I would definitely get a solar panel for my house if I had the chance. Solar Panels are great for the environment but are not that cost-effective. I also think Germany should give funding for solar panels instead of cutting it. Solar Power is very powerful. I am very glad you chose this article. I found another one on Solar Panels if you are interested:

  2. I think that solar panels are a great source for obtaining energy. They are very good for the environment. However, they are fairly expensive to purchase. In the long run, though solar panels are a great investment. Solar panels are very green and have virtually no harmful effects. Some questions that I would like to add are:

    1. Why haven't the U.S. purchased much solar panels?
    2. Do you think solar panels are the best source of energy in the world?
    3. Do you think that the U.S. should start purchasing solar panels now?

  3. I think that some countries should put money towards researching solar energy to find ways to make it more efficient and cost-effective. This could also open up jobs, and if research goes well, then potential solar power users won't be driven away by the expenses of using solar power. Solar power has been criticized for its limited usefulness. However, I think the important goal of alternative energy sources is to find a way to combine multiple forms of it so it can be relied on as much as we have on fossil fuels.

Given Germany's economic state (currently much better than the US) I think the country could very well afford to fund a potential betterment for the entire Earth. To me, it seems the reason the US has not ivested into a future in solar power is because the government doesn't want to take such a financial risk with the little money we have.

  4. While I have no objection to solar panels as a resource, it can never be our main resource to be depended upon. The sun is not out for all 24 hours of the day, and we can't gather enough solar energy to power everything. I would not purchase a panel based on the price right now, but I do think it is a good source of energy to at least slow down the depletion of oil. I understand Germany not wanting to lean on solar energy so I agree with what they are doing with their money. We have benefited from solar energy in a few ways, but not enough to depend on it as a world. Germany can't waste all of their money and energy on something that can not be a primary resource. Living a greener life means different things to different people. Some say it means we need to recycle, some say we can't drive cars and we should ride bikes and be one with the earth. In my opinion, recycling is a good opyion and that is what I do to help our planet.
